I am so glad I found Grace. Grace has surpassed my expectations time and time again and I truly am blessed and thankful to be apart of such a great church family.
It all began when I was on a hunt for a new church because I never really felt that my current church was the right fit for my growing family. I was quickly becoming discouraged. That was until my friend invited me to an event at her church, Grace UMC. We had a great time and not once felt like an outsider. My friend introduced me to some people and others came up to me and introduced themselves. It was a nice event and my family enjoyed themselves. Some time passed and my friend again invited me to another event. Again the event was great and everyone was nice. Someone said I should come to a service there and I agreed.
I had all the feelings anyone goes through when doing something unfamiliar. I was afraid one of my children would be too loud or not sit still or I would stick out and no one would talk to me or it just simply wouldn't feel right. I couldn't have been more wrong. It was the complete opposite (and my kids weren't completely silent or sat completely still.) From the moment I stepped out of my car, others said good morning. Someone held the door going into the church for me. The service was perfect. The sermon was well delivered and touching. The members were welcoming and very kind to my family. I knew right away this would be my new home.
Fast forward to over a year later. We now added a newborn to our family. I again found myself nervous to attend service with a newborn. Any anxiety was immediately removed as everyone and I mean everyone was so helpful and excited that it really felt like I was bringing my child to my family. No one ever negatively commented on a little fussiness or a loud baby burp. And the fact that there is a welcoming "cry" room where I could feed, change, or rock my infant AND listen and see everything going on was a major plus.
Let's fast forward some more to a much more active toddler. One that does not often stay quiet or sit still. My child's energy is embraced not reprimanded and when his noise or activity level is too much there is a wonderful nursery for children to go to during the services.
The moment I knew that Grace would always be my home was when my child was being somewhat fussy and then just making toddler sounds and the Pastor just stopped and said " Listen, what a beautiful sound...the future of our church." At my old church I would have been hushed a hundred times over but here I was praised for bringing my children.
What an amazing thing to be apart of!
